Lean To Conservatory Designs

You usually want to keep a conservatory design as simple as possible, as any extra corner or unusual shape will be overly reflected by the price. As a rule of thumb, the closer you stay with the producers standard measurements, the cheaper it gets. Often it takes your local builder just a few minutes to close a gap or straighten a wall with the material your house is made of, and adapt it slightly to the conservatory.  Calculate per square meter or square foot if having that little extra space around the corner of the house is really worth paying 10,000 Dollars / Euros / Pounds more for. Adding an additional standard field in the other direction may give you double the space for half the money.

Lean To conservatory designs normally follow in a way the idea of extending the roof of the house. This keeps it simple and therefore cheap. If the wall the conservatory is supposed to be attached to is high enough, this doesn´t present a problem. Most producers offer such a standard solution (and unfortunately only this one):

In case the wall is rather low compared to the planned depth of the conservatory (and often enough it is in single family homes), the front in the above design becomes quickly too low, means some of the space appears not to be really usable later, or, at least it is not possible to have a door there. The following classic vinehouse design is rarely seen these days, but an elegant way around. And in addition, the raised roof provides a much more spacious feeling:

Since modern designs and technology can cope with the elements of nature like rain water much better, a lot of contemporary houses are fitted best by the quite uncommon solution of raising the front of a Lean To  conservatory above the wall side. This comes in especially handy if a lot of furniture needs to find a place, i.e. when the conservatory shall serve as an office for a home based business:

The last two designs suit most houses as well aesthetically better, at the same time they are not as cheap to realise as the first. If finances allow for it they should definately be taken in consideration, although manufacturers offering these are not easy to find - unless you opt for the ideal of a bespoke conservatory.
